Controlling high blood pressure (Hypertension)

It is critically important for maintaining overall health and preventing serious medical conditions.  Here’s why: it is critically important for maintaining overall health and preventing serious medical conditions. Here’s why:

  1. Reduces Risk of Heart Disease
  2. Prevents Stroke
  3. Protects Kidney Function
  4. Prevents Vision Loss
  5. Improves Quality of Life
  6. Reduces Risk of Dementia

Here at UPC, we are striving to reduce the risks for our patients. We are always looking to increase our care of patients between 18-85 years of age who have a diagnosis of high blood pressure (hypertension), with the most recent blood pressure adequately controlled, less than 140/90. For 2025, the UPC goal is 85% of our patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) in control. Currently, as of April 1st, we are at 79%.

Breast Cancer Screening

It is critically important because it helps detect cancer at an early stage, often before symptoms appear. Here are some key reasons why breast cancer screening matters:

  1. Early detection saves lives
    1. Higher survival rates: When breast cancer is detected early, the 5-year survival rate can be over 90%.
    2. Less aggressive treatment: Early-stage cancers often require less intensive treatment, reducing the physical and emotional toll.
  2. Improved treatment outcomes
    1. Early detection allows for more treatment options, including breast-conserving surgery instead of mastectomy, and possibly avoiding chemotherapy.
  3. Peace of Mind
    1. For many, regular screening provides reassurance. If a problem is found, it can be addressed quickly.
      Common screening methods:
      1. Mammography (standard for most women starting at age 40-50)
      2. Ultrasounds (often used for women with dense breast tissue)
      3. Clinical breast exams and self-exams as supplementary checks

Here at UPC, we are striving to reduce the risks of breast cancer. For 2025, the UPC goal is 75% of our women within the age range of 50 to 74 years of age. Currently, as of April 1st, we are at 75%.

📢 Important Patient Portal Information

We have recently received reports that some patients are being told that Universal Primary Care (UPC) has access to the hospital’s EPIC MyChart system.

To clarify, UPC does not utilize the EPIC MyChart patient portal and does not have access to messages sent through MyChart. Because we use a separate electronic health record (EHR) system, we also have a separate patient portal for communication with our office.

If you are a UPC patient and need to contact our team, please use the UPC patient portal (Healow) or call our office directly. Messages sent through the hospital’s MyChart system will not be received by UPC providers or staff.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. If you have questions about accessing the UPC patient portal, please contact our office and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,
Universal Primary Care
