Quality of Health
Universal Primary Care
Controlling high blood pressure (Hypertension)
It is critically important for maintaining overall health and preventing serious medical conditions. Here’s why: it is critically important for maintaining overall health and preventing serious medical conditions. Here’s why:
- Reduces Risk of Heart Disease
- Prevents Stroke
- Protects Kidney Function
- Prevents Vision Loss
- Improves Quality of Life
- Reduces Risk of Dementia
Here at UPC, we are striving to reduce the risks for our patients. We are always looking to increase our care of patients between 18-85 years of age who have a diagnosis of high blood pressure (hypertension), with the most recent blood pressure adequately controlled, less than 140/90. For 2025, the UPC goal is 85% of our patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) in control. Currently, as of April 1st, we are at 79%.
Breast Cancer Screening
It is critically important because it helps detect cancer at an early stage, often before symptoms appear. Here are some key reasons why breast cancer screening matters:
- Early detection saves lives
- Higher survival rates: When breast cancer is detected early, the 5-year survival rate can be over 90%.
- Less aggressive treatment: Early-stage cancers often require less intensive treatment, reducing the physical and emotional toll.
- Improved treatment outcomes
- Early detection allows for more treatment options, including breast-conserving surgery instead of mastectomy, and possibly avoiding chemotherapy.
- Peace of Mind
- For many, regular screening provides reassurance. If a problem is found, it can be addressed quickly.Common screening methods:
- Mammography (standard for most women starting at age 40-50)
- Ultrasounds (often used for women with dense breast tissue)
- Clinical breast exams and self-exams as supplementary checks
Here at UPC, we are striving to reduce the risks of breast cancer. For 2025, the UPC goal is 75% of our women within the age range of 50 to 74 years of age. Currently, as of April 1st, we are at 75%.
